Simple RF Test of Wireless Devices

The fundamentals in a simple and cost-efficient test-system of wireless devices are a RF shielded box and an antenna coupler. Ideal for GO / NO GO test of wireless devices using: Bluetooth, WLAN, UWB, RFID, Zigbee, 2/3/4/5G, LTE, GSM, GPS..

TESCOM - RF Shield Boxes:

The most important feature of the shield box is the shielding of external interference signals, that can affect the test of the DUT. Depending on the measurement locations and testing environment, various signal interferences occur such as surrounding DUT signal, base station signal, and another measuring device´s signal, distorting the testing signal and lowering the reliability of measurement. However, the TESCOM shield box has secured stable shielding performance by using shield gasket and EMI filter in areas vulnerable to external interference signals such as I/O connectors, joints, and around doors. TESCOM has a wide range of shielded boxes for different sizes of DUT’s and I/O connections.

Sub-6GHz & UWB Shield Boxes

These shield box supports a range of up to 12 GHz to enable testing on forward-looking technologies such as 5G, UWB, and WIFI 6E variants.

FAQ

What is an RF shielded box, and why is it needed?

An RF shielded box is an enclosure that isolates wireless devices from external electromagnetic interference, enabling accurate and repeatable testing of signal strength, bandwidth, and performance by preventing outside signals from affecting results.

What types of wireless devices can be tested inside these shielded boxes?

RF shielded boxes from TESCOM can accommodate a wide range of devices, including Bluetooth, WLAN, UWB, RFID, Zigbee, 2G/3G/4G/5G, LTE, GSM, and GPS-enabled devices, as well as tablets, laptops, and desktops depending on box size.

How do TESCOM shielded boxes protect against external interference?

TESCOM boxes use shield gaskets and EMI filters at vulnerable points, such as I/O connectors and doors, to ensure a high level of shielding against external interference, maintaining stable and reliable test environments.

What are the main benefits of using a shield gasket and EMI filter?

Shield gaskets and EMI filters reinforce areas prone to signal leakage, such as connectors and seams, reducing the risk of measurement distortion and increasing the consistency and reliability of wireless device tests.

What frequency ranges do these shielded boxes support?

TESCOM shielded boxes support broad frequency ranges, including sub-6 GHz and mmWave. Certain models cover up to 12 GHz for next-generation wireless technology, while specialized boxes can handle up to 67 GHz for 5G mmWave testing.

Are the boxes suitable for testing advanced wireless technologies?

Yes, TESCOM boxes are suitable for testing advanced technologies such as 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave), UWB, WIFI 6E, LTE, GSM, and GPS, thanks to their wide supported frequency range and customizable antenna couplings.

What types of antenna couplers are available, and how are they used?

Flat-type antenna couplers provide wireless connections to devices inside the box, supporting multiple frequency bands and eliminating the need for physical RF connectors. Vivaldi antenna options range from 0.7 GHz to 6 GHz, supporting single and dual polarization.

Can antenna couplers handle multi-frequency devices?

Yes, TESCOM's flat antenna couplers can reliably connect and test devices operating on multiple frequency bands, ensuring compatibility with a broad range of wireless protocols.

Which models are suitable for 5G mmWave testing?

TESCOM offers manual-operation shielded boxes specifically optimized for 5G mmWave testing in the 0.1 GHz to 67 GHz range, suitable for larger devices such as tablets and laptops.

What frequency ranges do the horn antennas support?

TESCOM provides quad-ridged horn antennas with frequencies from 24 GHz to 44 GHz and rectangular horn antennas covering 24 GHz to 67 GHz for advanced mmWave testing applications.
