Pulse Dielectric Test

Make sure your insulated wire can withstand highvoltage and stress

The Pulse Dielectric Tester (PDT) is a specialized laboratory instrument for evaluating the insulation strength and lifetime of enamelled wire under high-voltage, high-frequency stress. It is used to simulate demanding operating conditions and reveal how wire insulation responds to corona, partial discharge, and long-term electrical loading.

The benefits of The Pulse Dielectric Test

Designed for quality assurance and research, the PDT helps manufacturers verify that wire products meet strict performance requirements before they enter production or reach the end user. It can test twisted-pair enamelled wire and strip wire, supporting sample diameters from 0.071 mm to 2.50 mm, with up to five samples tested simultaneously.

By applying adjustable voltage, frequency, current, and temperature, the instrument makes it possible to observe insulation behavior under controlled conditions and identify the point at which degradation or failure begins. This is especially valuable for applications where reliability is critical, such as electronics, industrial equipment, and military systems.

The PDT also supports both short acceptance tests and extended endurance tests, automatically storing test data for traceability and reporting. In this way, it serves as an essential tool for product development, process validation, and ongoing quality control.

A pulse dielectric test is a high‑voltage insulation test where the magnet wire under test is exposed to short voltage pulses (often with a defined peak, rise time, and waveform) to check whether its insulation can withstand transient overvoltages without breaking down. It is essentially a type of dielectric withstand test focused on simulating real‑world surge or impulse conditions rather than only steady AC or DC stress.
