Wire Testers / Laboratory Tester / Mechanical Tester

ELONGATION TESTERS

-Validate the ductility, formability and strenght of your wire

Stretching the wire

An elongation tester is essential for measuring how much a material stretches (elongates) before breaking when subjected to tension. The primary reason anyone needs an elongation tester is to evaluate the ductility, strength, and overall quality of materials like metals or enameled wire under stress.

Determining Material Properties

An elongation tester reveals how a material behaves under load by measuring the percentage increase in its original length before fracture. This helps in determining two key mechanical properties:

  • Ductility: The ability of a material to deform without breaking; critical for materials that must be flexible or bent safely, such as enameled wire, magnetic wire and other components.
  • Tensile Strength: The maximum stress a material can withstand before failure, indicating its load-bearing capacity.

Low Stress Elongation Tester

Another diciplin within elongation testing is measuring the softness of the enameled wire. The LSE (Low Stress Elongation) value indicates the formability of the wire, there a high LSE indicates that the wire has greater formability and is better able to
absorb bends and twists during hairpin manufacturing or motor and coil winding operation. A low LSE value(with reference to the same wire diameter) indicates a harder wire with more springiness.

Quality Assurance

Elongation testing is a vital part of quality control. Manufacturers use it to ensure materials meet production specifications and international standards (such as ASTM or DIN). Deviations in elongation percentage can indicate issues like poor processing or incomplete curing of the magnet wire during manufacturing.

Industrial Applications

Elongation testers are widely used in:

  • Wire and cable manufacturing, to ensure electrical wires have the right ductility and strength for safety and performance.
  • Aerospace and automotive industries, to verify that components can handle mechanical stress without failure.

The Elongation Test proces

The wire shall be stretched at 5 mm/1” +/- 20% rate. The elongation shall be expressed as a percentage of the free-measuring length. Maximum elongation 52%. The Automatic  Elongations Tester will automatically  be stopping at break point.
