Strip Bending Device

Wire Testers / Laboratory Tester / Mechanical Tester

Strip Bending Device

Strip Bending Device for standardized bend testing

The Strip Bending Device is designed for controlled bend testing of wire and strip specimens, helping you evaluate how materials behave under repeated forming stress. It provides a reliable way to check whether insulation, coatings, or wrapping materials can withstand bending without cracking, delaminating, or exposing the conductor.

Built for laboratory use, the SBDX combines robust construction with fast sample locking for efficient testing. Its design supports repeatable, standardized results, making it a practical solution for quality control, product development, and compliance testing.

Why choose the SBDX

The SBDX is made for laboratories that need accuracy, durability, and ease of use in one instrument. It supports strips up to 180 mm² in both flat-wise and edgewise bending, while its galvanized steel construction ensures long service life even under frequent use.

Fast sample locking helps reduce setup time and keeps the specimen firmly in place during testing. That means more consistent bends, more reliable results, and less time spent on manual adjustments.

Technical section

How the test works

A straight specimen is bent through 180° around a polished mandrel with the diameter specified by the applicable standard. The sample is bent in two directions to form an elongated S-shape, with care taken to avoid buckling or uneven deformation. After bending, the specimen is examined under magnification to assess any cracks, delamination, or exposure of underlying material.

What the test reveals

This test is used to determine whether a wire or strip can tolerate mechanical forming without surface or insulation failure. It is especially useful for identifying weak points in enamel coatings, fiber coverings, or tape-wrapped constructions. Because the bending process is tightly controlled, the results provide a clear indication of material flexibility and coating integrity.

Key features

  • Suitable for strips up to 180 mm².

  • Flat-wise and edgewise bending.

  • Harsh galvanized steel construction.

  • Fast sample locking for efficient setup.

  • Designed for repeatable, standardized testing.

Recommended applications

The Strip Bending Device is ideal for wire and cable laboratories, materials testing facilities, and quality assurance departments. It is particularly valuable when testing insulation systems, coated conductors, and wrapped wire products that must meet bend performance requirements.

Short product description

The Strip Bending Device SBDX is a robust laboratory tester for standardized bend testing of wire and strip specimens. It ensures repeatable bending around a defined mandrel diameter, helping laboratories verify coating integrity, flexibility, and resistance to cracking or delamination.
