Our Moisture Meters are suitable for any baled biomass and in many different applications.
Microwave-based moisture measurement determines moisture content by transmitting microwaves through the entire biomass bale. This approach enables true volumetric measurement, ensuring that results represent the full bale rather than a small, potentially unrepresentative sample.
Because microwave signals interact with the surrounding environment, proper system design must account for reflections from nearby structures to maintain measurement accuracy. In addition, the system correlates microwave attenuation with the material’s bulk density, requiring input on bale volume and weight to deliver precise, biomass-specific moisture values.

We installed our first system, the DSE4100, in 1992 at the energy company Dong. Since then, the DSE4000 series has been continuously developed for reliable 24/7 operation in demanding industrial environments.

What are the advantages of a microwave based moisture meter?
When measuring with microwaves, you measure a lot of material instead of just a little sample. You get the measuring result at once, and you get a very accurate result.
Are there any issues to consider before installing the moisture meter?
All you have to consider is that there is no metal between the transmitter and receiver and that the sensors are in parallel.
What types of materials are suitable to measure with microwaves?
You can use the microwave based moisture meter to measure all baled organic materials e.g. Straw, Alfalfa, Energy grasses etc.
How does a microwave based moisture meter work?
The transmitter sends a signal of a known power through the material. Then, the microwaves encounter water molecules. The oscillation of the water molecules makes the signal lose power, and the weakened signal can thereafter be calculated into a moisture measurement result in percent of the material's volume and weight.
Are there any limitations to using a microwave based moisture meter?
Limitations can occur if the material has a very small volume, a very high density, or a very long measuring distance. However, please feel free to contact us to discuss your moisture meter solution.
